Judgement of Results : Vimsottari Dasa Part – 4

Argala

1)      The houses on which the dasa planet has subha argala (beneficial intervention) by being in the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th or 11th from it, shall prosper. Papa Argala (malefic intervention) by the dasa planet being a natural malefic also results in beneficence to the bhava in the short, but is evil in the long run.

2)      If the Argala of the dasa planet is obstructed Virodh Argala, then during the antar dasa of such planets, the good result of the concerned house shall be obstructed or reversed.

Three parts of period

Every dasa or antardasa can be divided into 3 parts to judge the trend.

1)      Udaya (Rising): Planets in Sirsodaya (head rising) signs give results (good or bad) at the beginning (first 1/3 portion) of their dasa/ antar.  Planets in pristodaya signs (back rising) give results at the end (last 1/3 portion) of their period and planets in ubhyodaya (both rising only Pisces) give results in the middle (middle 1/3rd portion) of their periods. Some astrologers opine that the planets in ubhyodaya rasi give results throughout the period (JP 18-26)

2)      For malefic planets the results of its exaltation or such strength in divisions is felt in the first three sub periods i.e. about 1/3rd the period of dasa/ antardasa. The results of its house placement and ownership are felt in the next three sub periods i.e. the middle 1/3rd part of the dasa/ antardasa. The results of its aspects as well as aspect, on it will be felt in the concluding 1/3rd portion or last three sub periods.

3)      For benefic planets, the result of its ownership and house placement are felt in the first three sub-periods (i.e. first 1/3rd part of the period); its exaltation and strength show their results in the middle part (i.e. next 1/3rd part) whereas the aspects on it as well as its aspect bear fruit in the last (i.e. concluding 1/3rd part) of the dasa.

Sandhi (Junction)

1)      Planets in bhava sandhi (junction of houses) are incapable of influencing the houses they are placed in. Planets in Rasi Sandhi (junction of signs) suffer annihilation especially when the ruling elements of the adjoining signs are inimical (e.g. Fire and water).

Rasi Sandhi Example

Chart 10 D-1

Chart 10 D-9

In the above chart, the Moon is in Gandanta i.e. it is in the last Navamsa of Scorpio (a sign in which is the junction between a water and fire sign). Placement in Gandanta caused a serious accident in childhood, but he survived due to exalted Venus in Lagna. A closer look reveals that the Moon is in the last degree of Scorpio i.e. it is placed in Rasi Sandhi or the junction of Scorpio and Sagittarius. Such an ill placement in Rasi Sandhi destroys the house lorded by the planet in Rasi Sandhi. Moon is the fifth lord and rules progeny. The native has been having lots of problems with love affairs as these either do not mature into marriage or, when one such affair did mature into a marriage, the desire of a child resulted in differences that are causing separation between the couple.

2)      Planets in bhava sandhi (junction of houses) cause disease and sorrow while those in Rasi Sandhi (junction of signs) can cause death. Rasi Sandhi between fire and water signs is called Gandanta.

YOGA (UNION/SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP)

Yoga means union and umpteen Yoga’s are listed in the classical literature on Jyotish. Instead of repeating them here, we shall discuss how to use them for predictions.

1)      Yogas (good or bad) shall be felt at all times if their karaka are strong (or weak) else, these shall fructify for short periods during the dasa of the yoga causing planets. This knowledge is vital in timing the fructification of the Yoga and other events.

2)      Pancha Mahapurush Yoga caused by the placement of either of five planets (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn) in exaltation or own sign in a kendra from Lagna indicates the birth of a great personality and promises fame, power and good fortune due to a predominance of the tattwa (indicated by the yoga causing planet). However if the Sun is weak, the yoga can never materialize and even if it materializes, it cannot be sustained if the Moon is weak. In such a case, the effects of the yoga are not felt for long durations and only during the dasa (periods) of the planet causing the Mahapurush yoga, some fame, rise etc. will be seen. Thus in every yoga, it is important to identify the planets causing it and sustaining it.

3)      Kartari yoga, if caused by natural benefics (called subha-kartari) placed in the 2nd & 12th from any planet indicate destruction of enemies during the dasa of the planet. In the case of papa-kartari yoga (malefics instead of benefic planets in 2nd & 12th houses from any planet), the planet suffering from such blemish indicates trouble from enemies. Final results should be declared only after an examination of strength of Lagna Lord. Note that the Karaka for Paka Lagna is Jupiter.

4)      If a planet associates with an inimical planet, then battles occur and enmity increases during its dasa. Graha Yuddha (planetary war) results in defeat or victory depending on whether the planet concerned is defeated or victorious as per longitude in the sign i.e. a planet with a higher longitude in victorious even if debilitated Rajayoga.

5)      Royal favor (appointments, power etc) is obtained during the period of Jupiter or the 5th lord. Planets associating with them or having unobstructed beneficial Argala or associated with the Ghatika Lagna give power and authority.

6)      Dhanyoga Great wealth/ sustenance power; Moon is the Karaka for sustenance (whereas Jupiter only indicates accumulated funds which is one aspect of it). Thus, during the favorable Moon dasa or the lord of 2nd house Dhanyoga results. Planets associated with the Moon, Argala on the moon or associated with the Hora lagna give wealth and Dhanyoga.

7)      In a similar manner, the 9th house and Sun/ Jupiter are examined for Dharma, religious austerities etc. (Sun) or for Guru higher learning (Jupiter). The tenth house and its four karakas (Sun, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury) are examined for profession, meritorious rites, Yagya, pilgrimages etc.

DISPOSITOR

The following are classified as dispositors

(i)                  Lord of the sign occupied by a planet is called Pakesha.

(ii)                Lord of the Navamsa occupied by a planet called Amsesha.

(iii)               Lord of the sign occupied by the Pakesha

(iv)              Lord of the Navamsa occupied by the Lord ascertained at (iii)

(v)                Lord of the Nakshatra occupied by a planet (as per Vimsottari scheme) called Jeeva.

1)      During the periods of such dispositors placed in strength in Kendra the houses owned by the planet prosper and gain prominence.

2)      If they dispositors are ill placed in depression or inimical signs they cause a fall or destruction of the houses owned by the planet. If the dispositors are in dusthana, they cause destruction and trouble due to enemies (6th house), own flaws/ disease (8th house), past debts (12th house) or evil (badhaka sign).

Marana karaka

The specific most malefic positions of planets capable of causing death like suffering are as follows:- Sun in 12th house, Moon in 8th house, Mars in 7th house, Mercury in 7th house, Jupiter in 3rd house, Venus in 6th house, Saturn in 1st house and Rahu in 9th house from the Lagna (or dasa rasi). Such positions of the planets are called Marana Sthana (death inflicting) and the planets become Marana Karaka (death inflictors). When such a death inflictor is in conjunction with or aspected by malefics or in inimical or depression signs, great grief is sure to come.

Sun causes fire hazards; Moon indicates danger from water; Mars causes accident and danger from weapons; Mercury indicates trouble due to flatulence; stomach problems are indicated by Jupiter; Accident, trouble from opposite sex are caused by Venus and venomous bites by Rahu. Similarly, the planet becoming Marana Karaka will not do well for its Karakatwa (Signification) and will surely tend to destroy the houses it owns.

Case Study: Erstwhile USSR

Chart 9 Vimsottari Dasa D-1

Chart 9 Vimsottari Dasa D-9

The chart of the erstwhile USSR has the 10th lord Sun placed in the 12th house in Marana Karaka Sthana. Such a debilitated and ill placed Sun indicates the destruction of its sign Leo which is also the tenth house in the chart. In any mundane chart the tenth house indicates the rulers or leaders and its lord in Marana Karaka Sthana, in debility and conjoined the malefic 8th and 11th lord Mercury indicates the death of leaders and consequential destruction of the Union.

Moon:  1985-12-03 – 1987-06-01

Mars:  1987-06-01 – 1988-06-20

The planets aspecting or stationed in the Marana Karaka’s sign (Leo) are Mars & Rahu. Whereas Mars, being the lord of the sign of exaltation of the Sun and placed in a kendra to Lagna causes the neechabhanga (cancellation of debility) of the Sun and hence, during its dasa, the Marana Karaka results will not manifest. However, during the dasa of Rahu, placed in debility in Sagittarius and aspecting Leo, the Marana Karaka results are sure to occur. Reckoned from the Sun (10th lord for leaders), the Argala (intervention) of Mars in the 11th house is fully removed by Rahu and Venus in the 3rd house. Such a obstruction to Argala will occur during the conjoined period of Rahu & Venus. Thus, with the advent of Venus antardasa in Rahu dasa, the table was set for the functioning of the Marana Karaka yoga for the leaders.

Reckoned from Venus, Moon & Saturn are in the eighth house as well as in the eighth house whereas this Sani-Chandra yoga is in the Badhak house from Lagna. From Leo, the 12th house is Cancer with the Saturn – Moon conjunction. Saturn is the evil maraka (killer) for Leo.

On November 10, 1982, in Rahu dasa – Venus antardasa – Moon Pratyantara, Leonid Brezhnev the head of state, died. He was succeeded Andropov who was helpless in the face of the fifth consecutive year of bad harvest in 1983. Thereafter on 9th February 1984 in Rahu dasa – Venus antardasa – Saturn Pratyantara, Andropov died. He was succeeded by Chernenko on 13th February 1984. Subsequently, after a year Chernenko also died on 10th March 1985.

Normally when such terrible Marana Karaka Yoga functions, the native himself dies or there are three deaths around him before the evil period ends. The successor Gorbachev made history by undoing the USSR and creating Russia. Thus, the USSR itself was dissolved after this terrible Marana Karaka Yoga.

Placement

Strength

1)      The good or evil experienced by any person is in accordance with the dasa prevailing at any point of time. The fructification of yoga (good or bad) and extent of such fruits are dependent on the strength of the planets. Hence, wise astrologers should in the first place ascertain the strength of the planets. The sources of strength shall indicate the directions from where the good results will come whereas the sources which are weak shall indicate areas of suffering. This should be intelligently applied to Vimsopaka strength as well. The results, good or bad, shall also depend on the vocation (career etc) and ayana (goals). Uchcha bala, especially when the planet is moving towards its exaltation gives status. In this manner the other sources should be examined qualitatively and quantitatively.

2)      Thus, even if the planet is placed in a Kendra, if it is weak it shall bring disease/ decay to the houses it owns, especially during the periods of such malefics/ planets that are the cause of its weakness.

3)      Any house prospers if its quadrants or trines are well conjoined and aspected. The reverse is the case due to malefic conjunctions/ aspects. In such cases the Lord of the Bhava cannot be considered evil. For example, Saturn is placed in the 2nd house, during its dasa the quadrant houses 2, 5, 8 and 11 shall suffer and dwindle unless these houses are owned by Saturn (relationships also count). Similarly, trines to the 2nd house (6th and 10th) also suffer annihilation. Saturn would have a full aspect on the 4th and 11th houses (being the 3rd/10th from the 2nd house) causing these to suffer.

4)      The period of the badhakesh or of a planet associated with it brings disease and sorrow (Agantuka adritsa). If the planets are benefic then the evil is easily pacified but if malefic and associated with fixed signs/ navamsa it is difficult to overcome.

5)      Planets placed in Badhak sign bring sorrow and suffering due to Agantuka (external) adrista (unknown causes) roga (suffering & disease as manifesting from karma). Planets in Kendra to Badhak sign give sorrow or foreign travel.

Case Study: Debilitated Moon

Chart 8 Vimsottari Dasa

Chart 8 Vimsottari Dasa D-9

In the chart, Moon is the 12th lord and is debilitated in the fourth house. Cancellation of debility occurs due to the placement of Venus in strength in its own sign (Malavya Mahapurusha Yoga) in a Kendra from Lagna and the Moon as well. The debility of the 12th lord indicates the destruction of the significations of the 12th house during its period. The Upapada (Arudha Pada of the 12th house indicating the fortunes of marriage & spouse) is in Pisces and its lord Jupiter is also debilitated. Cancellation of debility of Jupiter is brought about by the placement of Saturn, its dispositor in a Kendra from Lagna and the Moon. Thus, prima facie, there is considerable trouble in the 12th house and bed pleasures and conjugal bliss will be lacking. The family of the spouse would be very ordinary or poor at the time of birth and would have risen gradually (Jupiter in Pisces Navamsa in the seventh house from Lagnamsa conjoined an exalted Venus). With the advent of Moon dasa, the native’s marital life became unbearable and his spouse tormented him. The seventh lord Saturn placed in Lagna indicates a dominating spouse and the nature of Saturn would indicate considerable coldness. Their marriage was in doldrums and the native considered divorce during Moon dasa Ketu antardasa. Fasting on the days of the lord of the Upapada (Thursdays) and other remedial measures helped to tide over the crisis. Ketu in 12th from Moon and Arudha Lagna gave sudden losses and expenses. Everything went awry and out of control. Ketu is in Kendra to Badhak sign as well as Badhak lord Mars. However, with the advent of Venus antardasa, the neechabhanga (cancellation of debility) promised, occurred and the native re-established himself both in business and home.

Astrological Principles for Spirituality Part – 1

Hari-yoga, Hara-yoga, Brahma-yoga: Yogas relegated to Visnu, Siva and Brahma

Naturally, devotees of the three principle deities behind creation (Brahma), sustenance (Visnu) and destruction (Siva) are going to be found frequently in the charts of spiritual aspirants. These are defined as follows:

Hari-yoga: Benefics are in the 2nd and 12th, or in 8th from the lord of the 2nd. Since the 2nd house, like the 6th, is in a trinal location from the 10th, it is very closely linked to Laksmi-devi (Sri) in Jyotish. The 10th, although the seat of Indra or svarga-loka, is the most important house of Visnu, as it is through the 10th house that all of creation is maintained and protected. Later in this article, how the 6th house (seva) connects one to spiritual path is discussed as well. Anyway, Hari-yoga indicates the connection of Hari (another name for Visnu, which means “one who protects the devotee from all calamities”) to the 2nd house, which is ruled by Sri, the goddess of fortune.

Hara-yoga: Benefics are in the 4th, 8th or 9th from the lord of the 7th. Hara is another name for Lord Siva. The 7th house is the seat of Lord Siva, given that he presides over the functions of destruction or annihilation. Thus reinforcement of auspicious houses relative to the 7th lord brings the support and blessings of Lord Siva.

Brahma-yoga: There are two ways in which Brahma-yoga can be formed:

a)      Benefics are positioned in the 4th, 10th and 11th from the lord of the lagna; or

b)      Jupiter is in kendra from the 9th lord, Venus is in kendra from the 11th lord and Mercury is in kendra from the 1st or 10th lords.

Particularly, the first definition of the Brahma-yoga applies in this discussion, as Brahma, the demi-god in charge of creation, rules the lagna or the 1st house. By way of positioning benefics in the 4th, 10th and 11th houses, the lagna is reinforced and strengthened, thus bringing the blessings of Brahma in horoscopic symbolism.

Yogas involving Jupiter and Venus (sura and asura guru respectively)

These, in essence, are yogas for great learning:

Jupiter and Venus are respectively Brhaspati and Sukra among the planetary pantheon of demi-gods. They are thus the gurus of the suras (godly entities or demi-gods), as well as asuras (demonic entities) respectfully. Their functions are great perceptors or gurus, with respect to para and apara vidya. Yogas involving these two gurus are significant in the charts of spiritualists, and in fact are found in a variety of cases. The most important of such yogas involving Jupiter and Venus are as follows:

Sarasvati-yoga: Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are in kendras, as well as the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 9th or 11th houses. The result is that the native becomes a learned scholar in a variety of subjects and is recognized as such. This yoga is especially poignant when found in the Navamsa as well as Vimsamsa charts.

Bheri-yoga: Jupiter and Venus are in kendra from the lagna lord, while the 9th lord is strong. The result is a virtuous, religious and saintly individual who possess many auspicious qualities.

Amsavatara-yoga: Jupiter and Venus are in a kendra from Saturn, who is either a strong yogakaraka or is in exaltation. This gives great learning, renunciation and a spotless reputation. Note that this yoga forms verbatim in the Navamsa (D-9) chart of Srila Ramanujacarya.

Kalanidhi-yoga: Jupiter in the 2nd or 5th house conjoined or aspected by Venus and Mercury. This indicates exceptional character, learning, respect and a widespread reputation.

Bharati-yoga: This is an important yoga for spiritual learning and forms in two ways:

a)      The Navamsa dispositor of the 2nd lord joins (in the Rasi chart) the 9th lord; and

b)      The Navamsa dispositor of the 5th lord joins (in the Rasi chart) the 9th lord.

Again, in these instances, the 2nd and 5th lords and their connections to the 9th lord are important to note when evaluating the levels of spiritual knowledge which may be attained by the native. Bharati-yoga gives the native intelligence, learning, a spotless character and a far-reaching reputation.

Yogas involving Dusthanas: 6th, 8th and 12th houses

Although dusthanas are inauspicious materially speaking, they are important houses in consideration of specific spiritual inclinations in the charts of spiritualists. Natural or functional benefics in strength in these houses elevate the nature of the related areas of life for the spiritualists. Thus, some important yogas relegated to dusthanas are as following:

Harsha-yoga: The lord of the 6th house occupies the 6th itself. Briefly, the 6th house is the house of sad-ripus, and thus brings sufferings to the native if the 6th house or lord have multiple afflictions by malefics. If benefics occupy the 6th house in strength, however, if the 6th lord occupies the 6th and is aspected by natural and functional benefics, then the soul advancing on the spiritual path is interested in seva or service, and thus has little if any inclination to develop strategies by which he can achieve material success. This service either directly or indirectly promotes the cause of dharma. Note in this connection, that the 6th, like the 2nd, are the trinal houses from the 10th, and thus important within the context of dharma. Finally, Harsha-yoga is even more powerful if Sankha-yoga forms simultaneously.

Sarala-yoga: The 8th lord occupies the 8th house itself. The 8th is the house of asta-siddhis or the eight-fold mystic perfections that result from the practice of the yoga system of astanga-yoga. Perfections attained in this connection refers to extra-human powers, which, if used to exploit or abuse others, result in serious afflictions to the longevity, happiness and general well-being of the native in future lifetimes. Malefic aspects or associations to this house show that the native experiences sure and certain mental and physical afflictions throughout the course of lifetime.

If however, the lord of the 8th occupies the 8th, and especially if it is reinforced by the association or aspects of benefics, then the individual advances in consciousness through the exercise of various forms of sadhana conncted to the yoga system.

Vimala-yoga: If lord of the 12th occupies the 12th house. Naturally, interest in pursuit of moksa is encouraged and reinforced by this yoga, especially if it falls in the 12th from Lagnamsa or Karakamsa Lagna. For such to occur, the 12th lord is strengthened by way of conjunction-aspect-exchange with lords of trinal houses. If the 10th lord is involved, then the native promotes the cause of dharma through ashrams or monasteries and-or may live the life of an ascetic as well.

If, on the other hand, the 12th lord is afflicted by natural and functional malefics, then suffering due to sins acruing through prior lifetimes befalls the native. The interesting fact to note about the 12th house, however, is that whether it is afflicted or reinforced by benefics, the result is still the same: the native purges the results of prior inauspicious actions (vikarmas). In the former instance, it comes as a result of suffering, whereas in the latter instance, it occurs as a result of serving dharma. In the final analysis, however, the generation of auspicious karmas is the only way that the native can attain moksa, and not by simply suffering.

Birth chart analysis of Srila Prabhupada Part – 4

Pancangam and the Bhukta Tithi Rasi (Tithi based sign)

Further hints as to the significance of the Sun and Moon in Prabhupada’s chart (relegated to Sri Rama and Sri Krsna respectively), may be seen through the vara (weekday), tithi (lunar day), karana (half of tithi), yoga (Soli-lunar-yoga) and nakshatra (lunar constellation), as well as tithi-based sign at the time of birth. These constitute the five limbs of muhurta or Pancangam.

Tithi (jala-tattva)

Prabhupada was born on the Krsna Navami Tithi, or the 9th lunar day of the waning Moon, which is ruled by the Sun, according to the Kalachakra. Sun, as has been reiterated in this article many times, is the 9th lord in occupation of the 9th house with lagna lord Jupiter and Ketu, thus suggesting that Prabhupada’s guru was a direct representative of the Paramatma, the in-dwelling Supersoul. It also suggests that Prabhupada himself attained the highest level of realization, thus qualifying him to become a diksa-guru also. This is confirmed by way of BK Saturn’s aspect to the Sun and the 9th house. Tithi is relegated to jala-tattva, or the element of water, and thus has to do with that which sustains the native.

Yoga (Akasa-tattva)

The sum of the longitudes of the Sun and Moon fall in some nakshatra (one out of the 27), and for the purposes of the yoga thus obtained, various planetary rulers are assigned to each of the 27 nakshatras. Vajra-yoga was in place when Prabhupada was born, which is ruled by the Moon, who is very significant as the Ista-devata in his chart. Yoga, according to rules underlying the pancagam, is relegated to the akasa or element of ether, which joins or binds all things together. Thus, the force which brought Prabhupada to his guru as well as to the rest of the world is directly the Ista-devata Moon, who rules the Vajra-yoga.

Jyotir-linga and the Bhukta Tithi Rasi (tithi-based sign)

Jyotir-lings is the Sun sign of the chart, representing the point of conjunction of Siva (Sun) with his wife Parvati (Moon) for the purpose of birth of human beings. Briefly, this may be understood as the point where life force (Sun) joins the womb (Moon) of matter symbolically, and where the seat of the native’s incarnation and life purpose may be found in the astrological chart. So far as the tithi-based sign in Prabhupada’s chart is concerned, 60.11% of Navami tithi was remaining at birth, or in other words, 39.89% of the tithi had elapsed (100-60.11). This percentage, multiplied by twelve, equals the sign of the zodiac representing the Sun’s symbolic movement and yoga with the Moon. The tithi-based sign (Bhukta Tithi Rasi) arrived at, may therefore be found as follows:

  • 0.3989×12 = 4.79
  • 4.79 = 4 sign, 23.70 degree, or 23 degree 42’ of Leo

So, 23 degree 42’ Leo is a very significant sign of the zodiac for this chart, and its emphasis indicates the main purpose for incarnation of this individual. Leo – 9th house, as we have seen, is the sign-house position of the most signification raja-yoga in this chart for spirituality, and is directly the insignia of Lord Sri Ramacandra as well.

Navamsa of the Tithi-Based Sign

23 degree 42’ Leo falls in a Navamsa of Scorpio. Scorpio is the 12th house of the Rasi chart, while both of its lords, Ketu and Mars, join both of the Sun and Moon respectively in Prabhupada’s chart. Thus, the themes surrounding creation, sustenance of life and the specific avataras Ramacandra and Krsna, Who are everything in Prabhupada’s life, can be seen by the confluence of the above factors. Note also that the Sun, Moon and sign Scorpio , are all in kendras to the Atmakaraka, while the Sun, Moon, Mars and Ketu all form unobstructed argala to the Atmakaraka Rahu.

Thus where life force joins the womb of matter symbolically is where the seat of the native’s incarnation and life purpose may be found in the astrological chart.

Vara: the Weekday (Agni-tattva)

The day of week on which an auspicious event occurs, is every important in Muhurta Jyotish, as the Vara is representative of agni-tattva or the element of fire. Agni indicates physical strength, as well as the ambition and determination of the native to carry some goal into fruition. Prabhupada was born on Monday, which is ruled by the Moon (Sri Krsna by astrological correspondence), which again brings the energy to determination and life force directly to the Ista-devata, who is the Moon in this chart.

Nakshatra: Vayu Tattva

The nakshatra that the Moon may be placed in at birth, as well as its ruler according to Vimsottari dasa, in addition to its natural ruler, indicates vayu-tattva, the energy of air. Air indicates the way the mind works, and in which directions the mind may direct the native’s actions. Mrigasira is ruled by the deity Chandrama or the Moon, who is again the Ista-devata. The Vimsottari dasa ruler is Mars, who, as shown above, rules the 12th house and the Navamsa of the tithi-based sign. Significantly, Mars is also the Dharma-devata for this chart, which was mentioned above. Finally, the Moon and Mars form Vipareet raja-yoga, which gave Prabhupada intense determination and enthusiasm in the manner of serving his guru, and ultimately the Ista-devata as well. This passion may not be seen as material or personally ambitious, as the Mrigasira is a deva or godly star, which resonates with the material quality of sattva or goodness. Among the four orders of human evolution that it is ascribed to, i.e., dharma, artha, kama and moksa, Mrigasira is relegated to moksa. So, the mind is determined in his mission in an aggressive, yet pure and godly type of way, which ultimately aims at moksa, or the freedom from the repetitions of birth and death.

Karana: One Half of a Tithi

A karana is half of a tithi, in other works, the division of each of the thirty (30) tithis in one lunar month in half gives sixty (60) karanas. A karana is relegated to the prithvi-tattva or earth element, and shows factors which supports the life or mission of the native which endure over an extended period of time. The Taitula Karana in which Prabhupada was born is ruled by Mercury, who is exalted in the 10th house, as well as who is in the 6th from the arudha lagna. Thus, the one effort that he wished to endure over time, and which in fact formulates the basis of his legacy, were his books and translations of Vedic literature. The key to Mercury’s participation in the Sun-Moon themes in this chart is its position in the Hasta nakshatra, whose Vimsottari dasa ruler is the Ista-devata Moon. The natural ruler for Hasta is Suryadeva, the Sun, who again is the 9th lord and lord of the Jyotir-linga (tithi-based) sign.

Moksa

Bringing all of this together, we see that the many important factors underlying this individual’s life focus around the Sun and Moon, both representative of the two main avataras of Visnu, Sri Ramacandra and Sri Krsna. Mars, as the Dharma-devata, and also as representative of Sri Nrsimhadeva (half-man, half-lion incarnation of Visnu), stimulates all the yogas in this chart as well. Given that these are in great strength in the Rasi chart, and given that they alone either occupy or aspect the 12th house from Karakamsa lagna, it is evident that Prabhupada attained moksa at the conclusion of this lifetime. Similarly, the 12th house from the Navamsa lagna (Lagnamsa) is aspected by Jupiter, Ketu, Mercury, as well as Bhartrikaraka Saturn. These are strong confirmations and evidence of the likelihood of his having attained a state of liberation following death. This was the fulfillment of the dream, in which the avatars of Visnu guaranteed that he would “cross the ocean” safely and fulfilly his mission in his lifetime. He undoubtedly was rapt in full consciousness of Krsna at the moment of his death, and left this world in Sri Vrindavana-dhama amidst the uproarious sankirtan of the Holy Names of Krsna. Moksa is guaranteed by leaving  the world in this way, a fact which Sri Krsna affirms in the Bhagavad-gita.

Indication of Moksa in the Rasi Chart

Although Maharsi Jaimini emphasizes the 12th from Karakamsa or Lagnamsa as indicative of moksa, we also get very clear indications of the same in Prabhupada’s Rasi chart. Moksa can be seen with respect to the Rasi lagna, in the following ways;

  1. Ketu rules the 12th house, as it is the stronger ruler of the sign of Scorpio.

  1. 12th Lord Ketu joins the lord of the ascendant in the 9th house, while the lord of the 9th (Sun) indicates that he left this world in a temple. Jupiter’s presence indicates that he was in the association of many disciples. Sun and Jupiter’s forming unobstructed argala to the exalted Moon indicates that the place was a temple of Sri Krsna.

  1. Finally, the stronger between the AL and the A7 can be judged in the matter of the circumstances of death. It was already mentioned that the 3rd or 8th from the AL can give indications of the circumstances, although Maharshi Jaimini advises that the 3rd and 8th from the A7 (Darapada), can be seen also, if the A7 is stronger than the AL.

  1. Given that the A7 (Virgo) is stronger than the AL (Aries, with  no planets in it) its vantage point may better indicate the circumstances of death. Ketu is the lord of Scorpio, which is in the 3rd from A7. Twelfth lord Ketu, in company with lagna lord Jupiter and the Sun in the 12th from A7, give strong and similar confirming indications of moksa after the completion of this lifetime.

  1. Finally, he left this world in the Vimsottari dasa of Ketu, and sub-period of Mercury, the lord of A7.

Venus in Marriage & Sex Part – 03

When the seventh house is afflicted along with Jupiter and Mercury two benefics, one is likely to lead an immoral life. When seventh house along with Venus and Moon, planets ruling sex life and mind are afflicted, similar results are produced. Moon in the 7th or 12th bhava positioned in malefic Vargas when Venus is afflicted produces a native with mind inclined to sexual pleasures. Similar results are produced when moon and Venus aspected by malefic falling in ascendants belonging to signs of Mars or Saturn that is Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries, or Scorpio. Similar results are produced when Moon and Venus posited in the 7th house or aspecting it when 7th house is very strong. Moon in the 7th house having signs of either Mars or Saturn (Aries, Scorpio, Capricorn, Aquarius) when Venus is afflicted by malefic makes a man highly sexy and mind is always engaged in finding ways and means to seek sexual pleasures. Similar results have also been witnessed with Venus in conjunction with Moon in the 7th or 11th house. Similar results are produced when in a horoscope Venus is afflicted and at the same time, Sun, ruling over position and finance is also afflicted, one will have illicit relations with women and will also incur financial losses through them. When Venus is either in the house of Mars or Saturn and also aspected by either of them without being aspected by either of them without being aspected by any benefic, a man have a loose sex life. Afflicted Venus in ascendant or 4th house or 7th house or 10th house at the same time aspected by a malefic produces a highly sensual person not bothered about others and believes in sexual gratification. Especially afflicted Venus in the 7th house makes a man connected with a woman who has already enjoyed her sex life. Influence of Saturn, Rahu, or Ketu over Venus in the 7th house makes a man connected with low born women. One with relate himself illegally with many females if Venus is weak while Moon and Saturn are strong. If the 7th house is occupied by Rahu in the company of the 7th lord Venus and be in a powerful aspect to malefics alone, the native will distress his father and spend entire patrimony to delight him with a band of whores. According to Jataka Tattawa, native will be a rake if Venus, Saturn, and Mars are in their Shadvargas and Saturn and Mars aspect the 7th house.

Jupiter rules our religious tendencies and therefore an unafflicted Jupiter makes one a God fearing man. When Jupiter is either in the house of Mars or Saturn or in navamsa or either of them and is also aspected by or conjoined with any of them or Rahu, a man can easily give up his customs, social bindings and religious ties. In such a horoscope, if any of the houses or planets ruling sex life particularly Venus, is afflicted, one is likely to lead a desirable life. According to Jataka Tattawa one will be a rake if Venus and Jupiter are together with a malefic in 2nd, 7th, or 5th house. The combination of Venus and Jupiter are together with a malefic in 2nd, 7th, or 5th house. The combination of Venus and Jupiter in association with malefic in the 2nd points toward immortal bent of mind. If the 2nd and 3rd lords join the Venus in a trine from the ascendant and be in aspect to Jupiter, the native will be an adept in enjoying sexual bliss with a great number of females. Similarly, if the 3rd lord is in the 7th house in aspect to Jupiter while the 7th lord aspects Venus, one will be adept in obtaining sexual bliss with excellent women even in his advanced age.

When the 7th house is owned by either Mars or Saturn, and Moon, Venus, Mars and Saturn are situation there, one will lead the worst sex life. Venus in association with malefic positioned in Kendra which coincides with its debilitation sign and aspected by a malefic gives sexually tormented person. A person will have highly sexed feeling and busy in seeking pleasure with other women is seen when Venus in ascendant happens to be in the signs of Saturn or Mars. When afflicted Venus along with Mars joins the 7th house, one leads an undesirable sex life. When Venus and Mars both join the 10th house and are afflicted, similar result is produced.

Mercury rules over wisdom, intelligence etc and therefore strong Mercury can counteract many evils in our life. Weak and afflicted Mercury is a bar for sound judgment and decision. When afflicted Mercury along with Venus joins the 7th house, it is bad for normal sex life. Situation of such Mercury along with Venus in the 8th house or in the 10th house is also not desirable. When these two planets join 7th, 8th, or 10th house which is owned by a malefic, and when none of these  two planets is either aspected or conjoined with benefics, a person with a sex relations with a woman other than his wife and will make many blunders due to such connections. Even an afflicted Venus conjoined with Mercury in the 12h house is not conductive for a normal sex life and number of secret affairs are there.

When malefic Venus is in the 10th house of Moon, and Moon is also afflicted by Saturn, the person will be mentally weak and his mind will be always influenced by sex hunger and he is likely to lead an undesirable sex life as the ultimate effect. When 7th house is owned by Venus, and Venus and Mercury both join that house along with Saturn, the person will have too much sex desire in him and is likely to lead a questionable sex life, similar results are found when this combination falls in the 10th house instead of the 7th house. Venus occupying a fourth house from Saturn shows the same effect. A very passionate and licentious person is witnessed when his horoscope indicates Venus to be in signs of Aries, Taurus, or Aquarius. As mentioned earlier Venus as owner of 6th house in combination with Mars aspected by a malefic and Venus in his own sign or in Gemini shows a highly passionate nature of the native. Venus positioned in a sign of a planet having retrograde motion of Venus positioned in 7th house fully aspected by the strong lord or ascendant shows sexual weakness. When Venus joins with Saturn and Jupiter in the 10th house or when Saturn falls in 6th or 12th from Venus, the native will have a nature of a eunuch.

When Venus is with malefic connections and Moon occupying the 12th or when Venus in the 7th house and 7th lord are influenced by Rahu by conjunction or aspect, a person becomes too much sexy and the result will be similar. When 7th lord is either in lagna or in the 7th house and is a malefic and is also afflicted, one leads a loose life. Similar will be the result when afflicted 7th lord joins either 2nd or 12th house. When lord of the 7th house joins a house owned by a malefic and is either conjoined with or aspected by a malefic, a person is likely to lead a loose sex life.

9th house rules the social customs, religious creeds etc and when the lord of this house joins the lord of the 8th house in a house owned by a malefic and also is afflicted, a man doesn’t care for his customs, family bindings, religious bindings etc in matter of leading his sex life and therefore ultimately suffers for this. When lord of lagna joins the lord of sixth house in a malefic house and both are afflicted, they make a person highly sexy and loose in character. 4th house amongst other things denote our family life. When 4th house is occupied by malefic and is also aspected by malefic and either Venus or 7th lord is afflicted, one is likely to lead a loose sex life, and thereby will cause much unhappiness in the family.

According to Jataka Tattawa a person will have sexual pleasures with the wife of his preceptor if Venus together with malefic is in the 9th house. Similar results are also experienced if the lord of 9th is debilitated and is in a debilitated amsa and is together with Venus. When lord of 9th house joins Venus and is also conjoined with malefic, one will have illicit relations with women’s like his uncles wife etc. When lord of the 9th house and both Venus and lord of the 9th house are in one house, one will have similar relation with women like uncles wives etc.

12th house rules extra-marital relations and happiness from bedmate. When Venus is in the 12th house, she generally leads a man to have paramours. When such a Venus is afflicted, the evil influences of woman are sure to come. An unafflicted Venus may be counteracted by the strength of other planetary forces, but situation of Venus in 12th is always bad. The malefic planets in the 12th house may indicate the number of paramours in life of a person.

The native will seek pleasures continuously with prostitutes if the 8th house is occupied by Venus while the 7th lord is in the 4th house and a malefic in the 9th house. One will indulge in contemptible debauchery day in and day out and will face an uncared end if Venus and 7th lord jointly occupy a sign of Mars while Saturn and Sun being bereft of strength are in mutual aspect. Rahu, Venus and the 4th lord occupying/aspecting the 3rd while the 2nd lord is in 6th, a native with this planetary disposition will discard his wife, join immortal females, acquire fearful diseases and will probably be disposed to commit suicide. In case of a Virgo native, if Moon and Saturn occupy together an angle or trine. While Venus endowed with strength is in the 9th from ascendant (ie Taurus), the native will be physically related to many females.

If Venus and Moon are in Shasthasthama and if Saturn and Venus or Saturn and Mars are in interplanetary war, the native will not be satisfied with marrying any number of girls. He will illicit loose and shameless connections with girls mostly characterless. His family life will almost be miserable in every respect.

If Venus and Moon are Shastastama or if Venus and Moon are both in Shasthasthama from lagna and if both of them or either of them is aspected by Saturn, the native will not be inclined to be faithful to any lady in the world. This disposition either occurring in rasi chart will decide future of the native and also his old age.

If Venus is in Aries, Scorpio or Capricorn in a sign of lust. If Venus be in Taurus or Libra, the native will earn disgrace through association with courtesans. Venus in moveable signs indicates a native who is inconsistent in affliction and not constant with one woman.

If the ruler of the ascendant is in common sign and Venus afflicted, the native will not be content with one marriage. Venus afflicted in the 7th or 11th houses makes the native loose moral and fond of fast company.

When Venus is in conjunction with Saturn and aspecting the ruler of ascendant, the native is inclined to sodomy or loves old and hard featured women or poor dirty wretches.

One must observe a special caution in applying the combinations suggesting looseness of character. Haste in declaring the views must be avoided and great thinking must be done. One must carefully judge the strength and position of Venus in the horoscope and also whether any benefic planet has influenced the combination or not. Venus is the most important of planets to build up character of a man and a strong and unafflicted Venus may counteract the malefic influences of the combinations. Similarly when a beneficial planet conjoins or aspects any of the planets making any of the above combinations it may counteract the evil influences of the combinations.

Analysis of birth chart of Srila Prabhupada Part – 3

Viparita-ayur-yoga (and longevity): If the Atmakaraka planet falls in the 1st, 3rd, 7th or 9th houses, then there is decrease in the term of longevity. This is called Vipareet-ayur-yoga. Prabhupada had long life per the rules governing longevity given in Jaimini Sutramritam. Vipareeta-ayur-yoga was cancelled, however, due to Jupiter’s aspect on to the Lagna. Thus, his ayur-khanda (term of longevity) remained long life (72-108).

Natural Age of Planets:

The natural age of planets with reference to the fructification of raja-yogas is as following:

Moon Age 0-1 One year
Mars Age 1-3 Two years
Mercury Age 3-12 Nine years
Venus Age 12-32 Twenty years
Jupiter Age 32-50 Eighteen years
Sun Age 50-70 Twenty years
Saturn Age 70-120 Fifty years

If the planet ruling the natural period is strong, then even if the Vimsottari dasa during the same time frame is bad, then the experience is not so bad. The opposite is the case if the planet ruling the natural period is weak, then even a strong Vimsottari dasa of a raja-yoga planet (s) is not so beneficial. If a planet ruling the natural period is strong and forms raja-yoga, and if the simultaneous Vimsottari dasa is also strong, and especially if the planet ruling the natural period is also the one ruling the Vimsottari dasa, then the period gives outstanding results.

  • For Prabhupada, the Vimsottari dasa during which he took sannyasa (formal order of renunciation), and started full time decision to his mission, was Mercury, starting in 1954 (age 58), and ending in 1971 (age 75). The natural period was the Sun (age 50 to 70), who is strong in moolatrikona in the 9th house, while the dasa lord was exalted. Mercury’s dasa was still in progress when he came to America in 1965, while the natural period of exalted Saturn started a year later. This was a very powerful period for the fructification of raja-yoga, as both dasa lord and natural period lord are exalted, while the fructification of raha-yoga fell in the appropriate age period as well (Jupiter-Sun-Ketu in the 9th house). Thus, the portion of Saturn’s natural period that was strongest was between age 69 to 75, when Mercury dasa was still in operation.

The Sun and Moon Ignite and Sustan Raja-yogas

The Sun and Moon as the primordial causes of creation and sustenance (the symbolic principles of Siva and Sakti respectively), both stimulate and sustain the effects of raja-yogas when they participate in such yogas. This occurs as follows:

  • The Sun, being the karaka of the 1st house, stimulates or ignites the creation or origins of something. If the Sun participates in or influences the raja-yoga in a chart, then it spurns such yogas to come into manifestation at the appropriate juncture in life.
  • The Moon, being the karaka of the 4th house, preserves or sustains the effects of raja-yoga, if influencing or participating in the yoga. If raja-yoga lasts for an extended period of time, then the Moon must be involved as the sustainer. If Moon is not participatory, then the raja-yoga can’t be sustained, and thus the native may experience only marginal results of such a combination.

Since the Moon in Prabhupada’s chart is the Ista-devata planet, it is evident that Sri Krsna desired that:

  1. Great power or sakti would come forth through the Sakti-yoga (which is also Vipareeta raja-yoga in this chart).
  2. Since the Moon aspects the 9th from the Atmakaraka and its dispositor Saturn, that his efforts to bring Krsna Consciousness to the whole world would bear fruit.
  3. That the results of such efforts would sustain over a long period of time.

The Sun may also qualify as an Ista-devata, being in the 12th from Karakamsa Lagna. The avatar of Visnu who appeared to reinforce the principles of dharma, Lord Sri Rama Chandra, made His presence known through the Sun’s stimulation of the Raja-Laksmi yoga in Prabhupada’s chart as well.

Surya and Chandra Vamsas

It is interesting in this connection that Lord Sri Rama descended in the dynasty of kings originating with the Sun-god, the Surya Vamsa. Similarly, Lord Sri Krsna descended in the dynasty of kings originating with the Moon-god, the Chandra Vamsa. Both the Sun and the Moon are poignantly participatory in the raja-yogas in Prabhupada’s chart, as shown above. This shows that his mission extended to a much broader dimension and sphere of meaning, in that the Ista-devatas in his chart are both Sun and Moon respectively. Thus not only was he a person of greatness, but his greatness extended far beyond the magnitude of ordinary humans also, in that what was conceived of as his mission, was directly the mission of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Sudden financial gains

The principle is that the 5th and 8th lord in rashi chart if associated with 2nd or 11th lord can give sudden financial gains through lottery or stock markets. The dasha in which such gains will happen should be connected with Hora Lagna in Kashinath Hora either by occupation, lordship, aspected by rashi drsti or the planet/lord in 7th from Hora Lagna. Lets use this principle in the chart of Shelley Ackerman.

Shelley Ackerman won lotteries on 22nd April 1994 and 29th April 1994.

Now, the dasha operating as per Vimshottari was Mars – Saturn. Mars is the 8th lord and is associated with Hora Lagna in rasi chart whereas as Saturn is the 5th lord exalted in 2nd house and is in conjunction with the 11th lord from Arudha Lagna. Mars is also the dispositor of Saturn in Navamsa chart. Mercury associated with exalted Saturn as 5th lord makes the yoga for gains from lottery or stock markets.

If we try to see the same in Kashinath Hora chart, Hora lagna is in 11th house, with Mars conjoining Hora Lagna. Saturn is the lord of 7th house from Hora Lagna and is exalted in 2nd house in Kashinath Hora. This indicates that sudden financial gain can be seen in this period.
